Smiles & Laughter

What's the saying?  "You don't grow in easy times".  Well, I'm right there!  Just need a big red dot to put under my feet wherever I go.  So far, 2009 has proven to be a year of growth.

A few days ago, we got some rather heartbreaking news.  So unexpected.  One of the sweetest, happiest girls that ever impacted our family passed away.  She and my daughter were best friends through middle school until she moved, and thanks to modern technology, they've been able to keep up with one another through high school.  My heart so aches for her family; mostly her parents.  Wow, 17 and graduation on the horizon.  I have not been able to shake the thought of how painful this must be for her parents.  In fact, it's pretty much wrecked me!  I personally have never been in this situation (praise God), and actually I cannot even begin to imagine what it must be like to be in their shoes.  Tonight, I am most thankful.  Despite the things we've gone through, we've never gone through anything that compares.

I pray that God would lavish her parents, her sister, and her brother with love that only He can pour out.  That God would wrap His big strong arms around them and whisper into their hearts words that only He can speak to comfort them.  I pray that God floods them with story after story about Lauren.  About the funny things she said, or about the wonderful things she did for her friends, and certainly how much she impacted lives around her.  To be only 17, one thing's for sure.  She left a huge mark on our family.  One we will never forget.

Thank you Lauren for all of the smiles, laughter, love, and joy that you brought into our family.  We love you, and we will miss you very much!
