This week, my dad will have yet another birthday. He will be 70 Thursday. He doesn't look it nor does he act it. Story telling is one of his gifts, and he is always the life of the party. During football season, don't expect to see him when LSU's playing either. He's one passionate fan!
I so admire him. He's probably one of my favorite people to talk with because he gives the greatest advice. He doesn't just offer it...you have to ask for it. And he comes out with these random one liners of wisdom ... how does he do it? The best part is his love for me. I am one lucky girl! He is such an example of Jesus' unconditional love. An amazing man in my book.
Unrelated to his birthday, my daughters and I decided to watch some old home movies this morning. What an adventure! Brings you right back to the moment when you watch it. We laughed at bikes skidding, hair cutting, kids playing, Easter mornings, dogs barking and squirrels eating. Oh, how I miss all those trees in the back yard at our first house. There were a couple of moments with Dad on there too. The girls had so much fun watching them.
Then we spotted it. One lone CD of 8 mm film we converted from when I was about 4. I noticed right off that I was wearing an Auburn t-shirt (not sure how that happened since Dad is an die-hard LSU Tiger fan). My grandparents were all there and so young. It was awesome! I just wish there was sound to them. I would love to have heard the voices and the conversations.
Thinking about all those moments we captured to experience over and over brings me back to my Dad. I wonder just what those eyes have seen in the past 70 years. What movies play on the big screen of his mind? Lots of smiles, tears, sweat, and love to experience. So many stories to tell, and I still love hearing them all. May my Dad have many, many, many more years of story telling. Here's to a great birthday and a great man. Happy Birthday Dad! I love you!
